I believe it is important to recognize and to affirm the contributions others have made for our country during their lifetime. Affirming another and acknowledging their strengths tells another that we recognize that they have done the best they could. Unfortunately, we do not pay great attention to our past history. I do not find this to be therapeutic. But in many cases, we need to appreciate the knowledge, education, strength, and skills of those notable individuals, without the resources that we now have like computer, were able to provide us with invaluable knowledge to love our country.
There are few, I think, who would dispute that Dr. Sergew deserves to be considered one of the great Ethiopian historians of the 20th century…if not, indeed, the greatest person that Ethiopia has produced. His books and unfathomable contributions have often shamed Ethiopian enemies, internal and external, and still serve as treasured materials, not for this generation, but for all generations who stand for the integrity and indivisibility of Ethiopia. Dr Sergew, from whom I had the privilege to learn Ethiopian history, personifies what it is to be an Ethiopian scholar and we should now consider what it would take for us to uphold his legacy.
I hope many of my friends would be pleased to read this site because in one way or another they have known Dr. Sergew
